Seriously though, I'm still running, well, not right this second. Marathon training is technically still going on even though the day of reckoning is Sunday. I wish that I could say that I felt good about how this was going to go. In fact, 3 weeks ago I would have say this is going to be easy but everything has really changed of late. My longest run was 3 Saturday's ago and led me on a 20 mile tour. Took me under 3 hours which is good and I felt pretty good when I was done, except for a minor twinge in my knee. Well of course, I didn't listen to my body and easy off, I just kept going with my schedule, which even though it was tailing off, was still requiring me to run 20 some miles the next week. So my knee pain never got better it just started to get slightly worse every time I ran. It reached the boiling point on Saturday of last week as I was about 4 1/4 miles into an 8 mile run when I just couldn't run anymore. I stopped, stretched, and started running again. 10 steps later, I was stopped again. Figuring I should push it with the marathon so close, I started walking, an hour and 1/2 later, I was home. I immediately grabbed the Advil and a bag of ice and I've been icing ever since. In fact, the ice on my knee right now is melting onto the chair......I need to grab a towel.
What have I learned from this? I'm getting old! No seriously, I need to listen to my body. Hopefully things go well on Sunday and I survive. If not and they have to put me down like Eight Belles at the Derby, I'll make sure Chris knows the login so she can keep the blog going.
